The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) was first announced at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002 by the former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The (EITI) is a global initiative to promotes and supports improved governance and transparency in resource-rich countries.

In countries implement EITI companies are required to publish what they pay to the government and government are required to publish what they received from companies, then these figure are reconcile and/or audit by Independent Administrator that appointed by Multi Stakeholder Group (MSG). The EITI is coalition of governments, companies and civil society, which has responsible for overseeing EITI.

There are 56 countries have committed to implement EITI including Timor – Leste (www.EITI.org).
